First off a true laser is much better than a pulse light device. A pulse light is only a flash lamp with filters in it and doesn’t do near the job a true laser does. A pulse light device is much cheaper than a true laser and is advertised the same. So buyer beware. Pulse light is diffused light and a true laser is one beam of intense light. Pulse light usually the energy is truly the handpiece which is only good for usually 100,000 shots and weakens as it is used. By the time it is at 60,000 shots it is only delievering half the energy. Many of the business don’t replace them often enough. A true laser doesn’t have these issues. Always ask what is the name of the machine they are using and do your research.
Depending on skin color what laser is the best to use? A diode or Alexandrite laser is a great laser for a Spanish, white, oriental and slightly dark skin people.. But, if an African American, Indian or very dark skin client needs laser hair removal I believe a Yag or diode laser is the right choice. When choosing what laser to use check out the len size used. If it is only a 12mm there is going to be a lot of missed hair and take a lot more treatment.
Another very important fact is having a true permanent hair removal expert treating you. Someone with many years using all types of lasers and a lot of advanced training in how to get the best results.
Remember laser is permanent hair reduction. Think of it this way. A beam of hot light is attracted to the color in the hair follicle in your skin. Contrast is a very important factor when it comes to great results, dark hair light skin equal greatest results. Those two combinations make for the best results a laser can give anything less than that is less than the best. An example is if a client has dark skin and whispy hair laser hair removal isn’t the best choice. Electrology would be. Think about it. The color in the hair shaft is the target, the skin is on the darker side so the settings can’t be high and the hair is thin so how much absorption of energy will there be? Not great. Electrology would provide a great treatment.
Plus, if the hairs are thin and not very dark how much heat is absorbed? It needs to kill all the germinative cells.
If you have a tan don’t laser the area that has had sun. Back out of the sun and whiten down first. If you are Hispanic or Oriental it only times a short period of time to darken. Be very careful and don’t treat until you have not had sun for three weeks before treating and be careful with a total sunblock or no sun until you are done treating. It is important to stay on schedule so you kill the highest number of actively growing hair each visit.
